Import a pose into Clip Studio Paint with Kinect
This article introduces a method for importing a pose using the motion sensor "Kinect", which was released by Microsoft as a peripheral device for the home game console "Xbox 360".
  1. Getting Kinect for Xbox 360
Used Kinect for Xbox 360 is sold for about 20 to 30 dollars on flea market sites. A Kinect-specific adapter is required to connect to a computer, but a compatible adapter is sold for about 10 dollars.
  2. Disable memory integrity
Since the Kinect driver was provided for Windows 7, it is blocked from operating as an incompatible device in Windows 11. This problem can be solved by turning off "Device Security -> Core Isolation -> Memory Integrity" in System Settings.
However, this also reduces the robustness of the OS, so if you are concerned about security, it is a good idea to install it on a secondary computer where important data is not stored. It does not seem to work in virtual environments such as VMWare.
  3. Installing the driver
Download and install the SDK (development kit) containing the Kinect driver. Next, connect the Kinect to the AC adapter, connect the USB terminal of the adapter to the computer, and then check in Device Manager to see if the drivers are enabled.
If they are not recognized correctly, check again to see if "Memory Integrity" is enabled.
  4. Installing MikuMikuCapture
Prepare MikuMikuCapture, which is specialized for motion capture of MikuMikuDance. Currently, the developer's website is closed, so it is provided directly from the TNK Software server as an alternative. However, based on the redistribution agreement, TNK Software is not involved in the contents of the program at all and cannot respond to unexpected malfunctions or accidents, so please use it at your own risk.
  5. Importing motion
After starting the app, first import a 3D model in PMD format.
The quickest way is to load "初音ミク.pmd" included in "UserFile/Model" of MikuMikuDance(DirectX9 Ver).

When the 3D model is displayed on the screen, select "Connect with Kinect" from the "Capture → Kinect" panel to put Kinect into standby mode.
Stand vertically 2-3m away from the Kinect device. When the red message disappears and the model starts to follow your movements, you're ready to go. Select "Capture → Start Recording" from the menu at the top of the window to start motion capture. When you're done, select "Capture → Stop Recording".

When you're done recording, select "File → Save Capture Motion (F11)" from the menu at the top and output the file in BVH format. No other options need to be changed.
  6. Convert to Clip Studio format
Once the BVH file has been saved, all you have to do is convert it to Clip Studio Paint pose format using Pose Converter for ClipStudio. Select "A-Pose" in the import options.
